About

I am often asked how, when and why did OggWear come about and what does it mean.

2017 a year I thought was chaos (until 2020 rolled around), shortly after receiving the wonderful news that I was expecting my first child, I found myself unemployed a tough reality of many in South Africans. Unfortunately, job seeking while pregnant is tough, and impossible.

I needed to stay busy to keep my stress levels down. My mom gave me a great idea to sew a few shopping bags as we were also entering into a no more plastic era, and the shops were doing away with grocery bags.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sewing and before I knew it I was buying all sorts of fabric designs and by word of mouth people were starting to order my bags.

With my new energy my imagination started growing and I started day dreaming “I wonder if I could make this and that” and “oh I must try this!”

But let’s not forget that my belly was growing and like all moms we have a wild imagination from all the things we would love to have for our new bundle of joy. However, with a very small budget I had to see what I could DIY and the more I did, the more I realise I wanted to do this for ever, I wanted to make awesome things every day.

I had initially thought the bags would fade out, because how many fabric bags could I really sell? I wanted to start making baby and child related items and since they would be designed for my daughter Olivia Grace I joked and said I will call it OggWear. The name stuck and next thing I was designing labels and business cards and registering a domain, oh how exciting OggWear was now a brand name that I would be building for Olivia Grace.

As for that cat in the middle, our kitty cat is called Pickle and anyone that loves cats will tell you the cats always wants to be in the middle or on top of whatever you doing, because they can.

Three years down the line we are still a small family business with big dreams and endless ideas.

Shopping/ gift bags still hold our main line, but it doesn’t stop us making limited edition bunny bags for Easter, and bean bag chairs for children’s rooms, canvas garden swings

Crocheting it my second loved hobby, I always say oh ill just make that hat or snood for me of a gift for a close friend, and then pictures gets out and before I know it, I have made 3 dozen for a friend of a friend of a friend, hahaha.

Please keep in mind when looking around our store everything is made by myself or with help from my husband 2year old and my mom, so quantity of the identical item is not always readily available but if you love it that much you may always put in a request and I can let you know if I can make more and the estimated turn around time.

Welcome to OggWear I hope you find something that brightens your day.
